About Simple Web
Simple Web is a community-maintained directory of privacy-focused web frontends and public instances, helping users access online services while protecting their privacy and personal data.
Our Mission
We believe that accessing useful online services should not require surrendering personal privacy to surveillance-based business models. Privacy-focused web frontends demonstrate that it is technically possible to provide valuable functionality while respecting user privacy.
Simple Web exists to make privacy-focused tools more accessible by providing clear documentation, reliable instance directories, and practical guidance for users at all technical levels. We focus on helping people understand these tools and use them effectively rather than promoting any specific technology or approach.
What We Provide
- Comprehensive directories of privacy-focused web frontends across multiple service categories
- Curated instance directories with coverage of HTTPS, Tor, I2P, and Loki network access methods
- Practical guides on using privacy frontends safely and choosing reliable instances
- Clear, accessible documentation that respects users\' intelligence while avoiding unnecessary jargon
Our Approach
We maintain this resource as a neutral, informational directory rather than promoting specific instances or operators. Our goal is to help users make informed decisions based on their own requirements, threat models, and technical capabilities.
The projects and instances documented here are operated by independent volunteers and organizations. We do not operate instances ourselves, nor do we claim authorship of the privacy frontend projects we document. We serve as curators and documentarians of the broader privacy-focused ecosystem.
Technical Implementation
This site is built as a static Next.js application deployed on Cloudflare Pages. This architecture provides fast, reliable access while minimizing infrastructure complexity and potential security vulnerabilities. All content is generated at build time, and we avoid server-side processing or database dependencies.
We implement standard web security practices including Content Security Policyheaders, secure SSL/TLS configuration, and careful management of external resources. Our goal is to demonstrate that privacy-focused documentation can be delivered through architectures that respect user privacy rather than requiring extensive tracking and analytics infrastructure.
